“They canceled a Brussels show and Brendan went over to record it in a day,” a relieved Douridas says. Last-minute arrangements were made to clear the group’s schedule, and producer Brendan O’Brien flew to Europe to marshal a frantic recording session. But it was a raw demo recording, and as the decision was being made to use it, the band headed for its European tour. The song, “Accidentally in Love,” perfectly fit the bill. “They came in and watched the opening sequence and submitted a song,” Douridas says. Luckily, this is a sequel with a happy ending, both in quality and in the narrative. At that point, Weezer’s “Island in the Sun” had been used as a model for the desired selection, and bands were asked to approximate its tempo and tone. Although the story isn’t as iconic as the first film, Shrek 2 is still loads of fun. It succeeds at being a family-friendly film with plenty of heart and charm and still has plenty of funny gags and references to pop culture. Kings, Queens, love potions, and knights in shining armor are all on display in this humorous sequel.Īs an added bonus, the visual effects are an obvious step up from the original, providing some awesome spectacles and colorful scenes. Shrek 2 takes all the aspects that made the original Shrek so good and infuses them with the spectacle of high fantasy. This includes the always funny Pinocchio (voiced by Cody Cameron) and Gingerbread Man (voiced by Conrad Vernon), as well as new faces Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) and the Fairy Godmother (voiced by Jennifer Saunders). This journey to prove himself has Shrek and Donkey running into a handful of characters, both new and old.
